Jagga Jasoos doesn’t get its heart in the right place. And that’s just disappointing.

JAGGA JASOOS is a missed opportunity in the end. This surprise musical fantasy solely rides on Ranbir Kapoor’s infectious charm and those couple flashes of brilliance. Watch it if you have the patience and appreciation for something brave and different.

Jagga Jasoos is a very costly experiment and a classic case of over-indulgence in a film which hardly has audience to lap it up. It is a terrible waste of resources and it should never have been made in the first place – at least and definitely not at the cost at which it has been made. At the box-office, the film will prove to be a major debacle and will be remembered as a blot on the reputations of all the people connected with it.

  • Apart from Ranbir Kapoor’s dazzling act and his chemistry with ex-flame Katrina Kaif, the film deserves a watch for its brave, unique attempt. Anurag Basu promised us a musical, adventurous journey and he successfully managed to keep the itinerary interesting.

Jagga Jasoos is only worth a watch for Ranbir Kapoor’s class act. As a musical, the film falters on several notes.

‘Jagga Jasoos’ is an over ambitious project which could have been a game changer film in Hindi cinema.

Jagga Jasoos is too long, but great fun watch. Ranbir has great comic timing, and Katrina – even though she looks exhausted most of the times – makes for a great sidekick.

  • Jagga Jasoos is endearing, refreshing and non-clichéd but painstakingly long especially in the second half. If you like lyrics and don’t mind the character singing out dialogues, you’ll love it like I did. The musical quality of the film makes it unusual and lovable at the same time.

Jagga Jasoos is a trip to the fantasyland but unfortunately, a bumpy one with Ranbir Kapoor saving the day for us! This one falls short of being ‘Tukka Laga Nishaane Pe’!

  • I would highly recommend watching this musical with a fresh and interesting script and nice music. This is surely one of Ranbir Kapoor’s best performances.

  • Jagga, Tooti-frooti, and Shruti do take you around their fairy-tale world. Yet, this fairyland is quite close to the world we live in. So much so that if it weren’t for the music, the colours, the quirky, kiddish, borderline slapsticky humor you would be left with a film that was a sad documentation of our times. To even think of mixing these things together is a step in the much wanted experimental territory – for this attempt alone I am stunned by the long stride Jagga Jasoos has taken. Most of all, it is a decent kids film from India. That the narration could have been crisper and the story a tad deeper, we can leave to its promise of a sequel.

Anurag Basu’s blithe entertainer is a blend of ‘Barfi!’, ‘Tintin’, ‘Rushmore’ and Spielbergian adventure films…

  • Although it’s sometimes a bit tedious and often downright ludicrous, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif breathe life into this wacky comic caper

  • Jagga Jasoos brings together a range of quality ingredients, but something has gone wrong in the cooking of it. It is highly engaging up to a point, but needed tighter writing and direction to stay on course. The very idea of a musical action adventure blending whimsy with eastern and western sensibilities is fascinating. The plus point for me then is that a hard-core mainstream director and two out-and-out mainstream stars have invested themselves in such an experimental project. While that is not enough, it is still something worth celebrating.

  • Maybe I was this film’s target audience once (at least I’ve something to recommend to my little niece). And maybe age has nothing to do with the audience anyway. Either case, this is certainly something you haven’t checked out on the Indian screen before (so what if that’s not always a compliment).

  • Jagga Jasoos wins in the way the story is told, not necessarily in what the story is. Take a trip to Anurag Basu’s fantasy land this weekend. You will not be disappointed.

Ask yourself if you are ready to watch a script-less film with singing dialogues and there’s your answer.

  • For all its positives, the sum of the parts is unable to redeem the whole. There are moments in the film that are wonderful, but when you put it all together, “Jagga Jasoos” doesn’t seem as rich and colourful as it appears to be.

The plot is so engaging that you wouldn’t even mind a poker-faced Katrina tagging around with Ranbir, who completely steals the show.

In the near-three hours of the run time of the film there’s everything else, with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif chasing bent spies, arms dealers, and sundry other smaller fry, while, of course, saving the world but it forgets to give us a story.

It’s a cliché, but no other word can sum up Jagga Jasoos better: Cinematic. Well, that’s it. Jagga Jasoos is the most ‘cinematic’ film you have seen in the recent months. Plunge to never come out of the world of Jagga Jasoos.

  • Entertaining, experimental and adventurous to the core, Jagga Jasoos is definitely a stepping stone towards a genre not yet explored by even the biggest of Bollywood filmmakers. A beautiful ode to Satyajit Ray, Feluda, Sherlock Holmes and Tintin at the same time indeed.

Parts of Jagga Jasoos are greater than their sum. But there’s no reason you shouldn’t head to a theatre and investigate for yourself.
