PK Reviews and Ratings
-
Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home. Appreciate its truths – which aren’t so alien after all.
-
PK makes for an entertaining one-time watch. Their hearts are in the right place, but this drama would have benefitted hugely from tighter editing and enhanced screen time for cameo stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Boman Irani. Sanjay Dutt, in an extended cameo as a large-hearted villager, pitches in perfectly.
Watch this film if you are a Khan fan and want to learn a thing or two about religious tolerance without making it a bitter pill for viewers. -
This is an absolutely unmissable mass entertainer, if ever there has been one. It is unlikely that you will ever be more entertained and more enlightened – both at the same time – by a Bollywood film.
-
Director Rajkumar Hirani has fashioned a clever film which asks progressive questions about dogmatic beliefs and does not attempt to bombard us with ‘right’ answers, encouraging viewers to rethink accepted social and religious beliefs. The performances are pitch perfect, with A-lister Khan proving yet again that he’s the most versatile and intelligent Indian actor of his generation. The result is probably the best mainstream Hindi film of 2014. But do be sure to stick around for the final credits!

Even though PK left me underwhelmed at times, there is no denying its utter sincerity of purpose. That feeling when you’re effortlessly floating in the air….In PK director Raj Kumar Hirani makes us feel good about life. And that, in these troubled times , is not short of a miracle.
-
PK is not a bad film at all. In fact it is a good film. However ‘good’ is not what one expects from Rajkumar Hirani. When one walks into a cinema hall expecting brilliance and gets only good, there is bound to be disappointment. However, there is no denying that Hirani’s weakest film is still better than 95 percent of the films released this year. Don’t miss it but do keep your expectations low.
-
I won’t rate the film because to capture genuine efforts of a genuine filmmaker like Hirani in numbers will be unfair. So go watch the film. Like it or dislike it. But be fearless to question it as well, just like PK does, unapologetically, unabashedly in the film.
-
What’s also very disturbing here is that even when the film is saying something important, it’s surrounded by conventional and corny stuff. Weighted down by cliches, the film often feels tiresome. I don’t enjoy watching Aamir Khan very much. His smugness, didactic finger-wagging irritates me. But here he sheds the moral weight he’s been carrying since Tare Zameen Pe and Satyamev Jayate. There’s a lightness and playfulness to his character that’s touching. In the raw state, as a clean slate, his PK is convincing and charming.
-
On the face of it, PK is a simple, sweet family entertainer that has its heart in the right place and wants everyone to live happily ever after. It’s also one of the braver films we’ve seen from commercial Bollywood because of Hirani doesn’t shy away from pointing a steady finger at those who would inflame communal tensions for petty, personal gain. Somewhere under Hirani’s seemingly sweet and harmless exterior, is an angry, disappointed and disillusioned man. He doesn’t appear in the film promotions, but he’s the one making the films in which people take on the ugliness of the real world and defeat it. Their weapon of choice: optimism that just won’t give up, no matter how messed up everything may be. However, it’s telling that the one who wields that weapon in PK is an alien who just wants to get off this planet.
-
It’s not often that you go to the movies to learn, absorb, comprehend and yet come out exclaiming what a delightful time you had. This is better than just an ordinary Hirani affair. It’s his most valiant product till date and I for one will applaud him for not frisking away with easy routes in a film that’s better kept ‘safe’. It’s a thing to learn from him, how to drive home a point without any bhesht of time.
-
Hirani’s PK is no doubt a very important and relevant film for all of us who have suffered enough due to communal tensions, fanaticism, polarisation and even heartless terrorism. Like all Hirani films, the second half relies on the hero becoming a champion of social reform via media with doses of drama and feel-good by asking the right questions, all predictably intercut with weeping viewers intensely touched by the points made.
-
Watch ‘PK’, I am sure no other recent film has doled out such genuine humour.
-
PK is far from being flawless but it remains a must watch film for those who believe in god, and also for those who don’t.
-
PK is sublime cinematic achievement speaking the unique ala Hirani language of cinema creating another milestone in the careers of Aamir Khan (his best act till date), Raju Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and UTV.
-
Aamir’s earnest as the elephant-eared PK, who unwittingly uncovers the frauds in the religion company. His language is spot-on, but his chiseled body appears misplaced. He’s a great performer, no doubt, but even he turns PK into a caricature. Anushka is the weakest link. Wonder if it’s her artificial pout that distracted us from appreciating her work. She’s capable of much more, but her Jaggu appears flat.
-
I can think of nobody but Aamir Khan as PK, and nobody but Rajkumar Hirani as our teacher. Take in what they say. Enjoy the way they say it. Make this mandatory for impressionable children waiting to hope. After all, these kids will be the ones in charge if extraterrestrials ever pop in to review our planet. And for once, let them think past the stars.
-
The message might be noble, but the narrative is weak, and this is perhaps the weakest of Hirani’s films. His trademark humour is sparse; and inspite of Anushka Sharma’s spirited portrayal of a reporter who helps PK, and Khan’s over-earnest performance as the protagonist, the film is a tedious watch.
-
To say the film focussed only on one religion would be completely missing the point. It is up to us to extrapolate it to the religion of our choice, including our own. How many of us will “get it” and be able to internalise it is a completely different question altogether.
-
PK is a fun film to watch. Watch it for Aamir Khan’s outlandish yet heart-warming performance. PK will make you smile, laugh and cry. And most of all, he will make you realize how important it is to believe in ourselves and humanity, rather then following any faith blindly. Just the perfect message to usher in the New Year.
-
It may not entirely live up to the lofty expectations one has of a Rajkumar Hirani film, but PK is still very much a Hirani film. It is a feel-good, family entertainer with a charismatic lead. It is well-meaning and amusing film, occasionally brimming with great ideas.
-
PK attempts to question narrow-minded rules and opinions of religious heads and the very definitions with which we segregate one from another.
Crisp and crackling PK redefines the term – ‘healthy entertainment’. This is Aamir’s best performance till date. Anushka fits the bill as Jaggu. Sushant Singh Rajput proves his mettle as loverboy yet again. Saurabh Shukla and Boman Irani are delightful. Sanjay Dutt does a great job as Bhairon Singh.
-
…with dodgy and inconsistent dialogue and repetitive visuals which look too similar to 3 Idiots and Lage Raho Munnabhai, PK doesn’t quite match up to the mark. It’s certainly not Hirani’s best. But it is good enough to engage and entertain the majority of its audience.
-
It is a film that has the Hirani stamp all over it – an entertainer with a message. And of course it too has tremendous repeat value. And yet, PK is not Hirani’s best!
PK is by far the most honest and earnest big-budget film of the year.
-
PK is no satire — it’s a bit too toothless for that — but it is a rollicking mainstream entertainer with ambition to evoke some introspection, one with compelling moments and some genuine surprises.
-
Its amusing insights and bold message make PK hit home. Appreciate its truths – which aren’t so alien after all.
-
PK sticks faithfully to Hirani’s well-oiled formula, and yet there is no question that it’s a courageous film. Packed with sharp dialogue and genuinely funny moments that offset the lack of subtlety, it is easily one of the year’s better films. The director’s best since Lage Raho Munnabhai.
-
At some point towards the end the filmmakers also take their eyes entirely off the ball and begin to deal with extraneous things and side characters.
Responding as an audience, was I disappointed? Yes. Anybody walking in with massive expectations will be (Ab dil hi toot gaya, PK kya karenge?). But could that well be a knock on the expectations rather than the film? Who knows. Was I glad I watched it? Yes. There you go.
-
PK is an outstanding entertainer with a strong message relevant to all human beings. It will easily prove to be one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, probably, the biggest also. It has all chances to emerge as the first film to cross the Rs. 300-crore mark.
-
Rajkumar Hirani has succeeded in giving social message and dealing with the critical issue of religion with such innocence and humour. The blend of humour, drama and emotions has worked well for the ‘PK’, making it the most successful film of the year.
-
It’s amazing that the makers thought of bringing us such an entertaining and thought- provoking film through the eyes of this unique character. Perhaps we all need a PK with us. As PK says, Earth ki to lulli baji hui hai.
-
A good story with taut-screenplay has been taken to the next level with the finest performances of the cast and flawless contributions of technical team. ‘PK’ delivers what it promises!
-
pk’s script lacks the laugh out loud and memorable moments that Hirani’s earlier films, ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ or ‘3 Idiots’ had, but nevertheless there is a healthy dose of subtle humour which keeps you chuckling once in a while. But its potent dialogues make up for the lack of laughs. That one gripping and extremely effective scene where pk is taking on the shrewd godman (Saurabh Shukla) is alone worth the ticket.
-
PK is a simple film with a strong message-of love, peace and humanity. That is what every religion teaches us. If only we humans understand that. The message by Pope Francis last week [at the start of the review], aptly sums up the situation.
We all need a change of heart! It’s a pity an Alien has to teach us that!!
-
PK is a dialectic on religion on the big screen, without much of the splendour of cinematic technique. It is rooted to dialogues, scenes and characters, as does Hirani’s other films. But the director’s biggest feat is the idea, its effortless translation and its politics. Someone in the broad stroke canvas of populist Hindi cinema has finally spoken on behalf of the agnostic. Given the news headlines, how much more relevant could that get?
-
It is rare that a film questions beliefs, especially of a god fearing nation like ours that has million gods smiling on us every single day. It is even rarer that the film does this with a smile on its face, without pontificating and sermonizing. PK does all of this with a flair only Hirani can manage. After Munnabhai, PK is the next buzzword for years to come. All Hail PK!
-
Beneath its vibrant bouts of humour, PK mocks at the societal arrangement we have grown apathetic to. Those jokes are ultimately nothing but PK’s sarcasm at the expense of our collective desperation that wagers to chance and dubs it a miracle, rejoices in disparity, exhorts fear and has forgotten their fundamental right to question.
When PK works, it does with great merit, spunk and surprise.
When it does not, it meanders, sermonises and guilt trips exactly in the tone of the one it reproaches.
-
PK is a fun film with proper dose of ‘gyaan’. It’s a film that shouldn’t be missed and it’s brave because it attempts to create a better world. Another winner from Rajkumar Hirani. It would be hard to stop it from owning the box-office as well.
-
If you’re looking for a film in the league of the Munnabhais and 3 Idiots, PK is not even close. But it’s still a must-see for many reasons, and by that, I mean the protagonists.
-
PK might not be the repeat value juggernaut like 3 Idiots, but it does have better content, execution and a more socially relevant topic. Props to Hirani and team for saving one of the most enjoyable movies of the year for the last.
-
Post interval, it slumps. The focus, which till then is on a character who intrigues us while interesting things are happening to him, gets diluted by a wholly superfluous romance (and songs, tuneful as a couple are), and a face-off between the guy awash in other-worldly goodness who asks all the right questions and the bad godman who has all the wrong answers.
-
WATCH IT! This film you will watch again and again on your TV and Laptop. Yes! Just like 3 Idiots. PK didn’t disappoint us at all. In fact, it was worth every penny and minute we invested in the film.
-
PK is a winner all the way, a film that Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy and Guru Dutt would have been proud of had they been alive. Rajkumar Hirani is without a doubt their most worthy standard-bearer
-
The movie indeed is a combination of entertainment, humour, glamour, wit and perfect comic relief with a message that is shown throughout the movie. It is bound to compel you to ponder and question certain myths.
`PK` has enough substance to keep you hooked to your seats for the entire run time. If you find your attention wavering in the first half, the second half of the movie will put your doubts to rest. The story only gets interesting and picks up pace towards the end.
-
You cannot afford to miss this! Aamir has once again proved why he’s ahead of his contemporaries as a visionary and a thinker! We bet you will watch PK more than once.
-
PK is an absolute must watch film and watch it before your friends tell you all the surprise elements in detail.
-
PK is a must watch and surely ends 2014 on a good note. When there is a confluence of smart direction, excellent content and an actor like Aamir Khan at hand, there is little that can go wrong. If you don’t end up asking the same questions as PK to yourself, then you may want to consider yourself an alien.
-
Aamir Khan’s PK is a solid entertainer that will surely entertain the masses and classes alike. An outstanding film. Go for it.
-
PK movie is all that you anticipated, a paisa-vasool entertaining movie that will enthrall you for sure. PK is a must and should theater watch, so book you tickets soon and catch the movie on the big screen.
-
PK will constantly blow your sub-plots forming in your head as it never gets boring while the several layers unravel themselves. The film will make you laugh but also think about matters that we so easily ignore by shrugging our shoulders but are relevant to us.
-
Now while its storyline is fascinating, PK has ample surprises which unfold layer by layer remarkably. But one thing, which needs to be made clear is that PK is not a out an out comedy-caper as its trailer and songs have hinted towards yet carrying the same thought-process while stepping into the theatres won’t disappoint you. While there is a serious subject Rajkumar Hirani is dealing with and his ways of presenting the entire issue turns out to be humorous.
